Are Noodles Good for You? Debunking Common Myths

Noodles have a bit of an image problem. Somewhere along the way, they got lumped in with junk food, crash diets, and late-night guilty pleasures. But here at Yunion, we've been making fresh noodles for over 35 years, and we'd like to set the record straight.
The truth is, noodles are far more nutritious than most people give them credit for. Let's bust some of the most common myths once and for all.
Myth #1: Noodles Are Just Empty Carbs
Carbohydrates have had a rough time in the media over the last decade, and noodles have been caught in the crossfire. But not all carbs are created equal.
Fresh noodles are a source of complex carbohydrates, which means they provide sustained energy rather than a quick spike and crash. They fuel your body through the day, support brain function, and keep you feeling fuller for longer. Pair them with protein and vegetables and you've got a genuinely balanced meal — not a guilty indulgence.

Myth #2: Noodles Are High in Sodium
This one is often confused with instant noodles, which are a very different product. Those little flavour sachets that come with packet ramen? That's where the sodium lives.
Our fresh noodles at Yunion contain no added flavour sachets, no artificial preservatives, and no unnecessary additives. What goes into our noodles are simple, wholesome ingredients. The sodium in your noodle dish comes from the sauces and seasonings you add yourself — which means you're in complete control.
Myth #3: Noodles Are Fattening
On their own, fresh noodles are a relatively low fat food. The calorie count of a noodle dish depends almost entirely on what you cook with them. A light stir-fry with vegetables and a small amount of oil is a very different meal from a heavy, cream-based pasta dish — even if both involve a noodle of some kind.
Load your bowl with colourful vegetables, a good source of protein, and a flavourful sauce, and you've got a meal that is as nourishing as it is delicious.
Myth #4: Fresh Noodles and Instant Noodles Are the Same Thing
This might be the myth that stings the most for us. Fresh noodles and instant noodles are not the same product. Not even close.
Instant noodles are typically deep-fried or dehydrated, loaded with preservatives, and designed for shelf life above all else. Our noodles are made fresh every single day in our Osborne Park facility, using high quality flour and free range eggs. They have a texture, flavour, and nutritional profile that instant noodles simply cannot match.
If your opinion of noodles has been shaped by the instant variety, we'd love to change your mind.
The Bottom Line
Noodles, when made well and cooked thoughtfully, are a perfectly healthy part of a balanced diet. They're versatile, satisfying, and when you choose fresh over processed, they're made from ingredients you can actually feel good about eating.
At Yunion, that's exactly the kind of noodle we've been making since 1989 — and we wouldn't have it any other way.
